NJ Special Election

Who is Montclair supporting in the NJ 11 Special Election on February 5th?

Brendan Gill, Montclair’s homegrown candidate claims he will “fight for working families, protect our democracy (Read NJEA Fraud), and make sure everyone has a seat at the table”.

What “table” is Gill referring to? The NJEA “table” for democrats that siphons off taxpayer funded teachers’ salaries?

Teachers of New Jersey pay the highest in the nation union dues, a total of $1,585 for 2025-26. That’s 95% higher than Massachusetts and 31% higher than California, based on research published by the Sunlight Policy Center of NJ. https://sunlightpolicynj.org/njea-leadership-spent-45-million-of-dues-on-sean-spillers-vanity-run-and-just-hiked-teachers-dues-to-1127-once-again-the-highest-in-the-nation-by-far/

Phil Murphy has compensated Brendan Gill through a maze of quasi non-profit organizations and political action committees all funded by NJ teachers’ highest in the nation dues. On top of the $998,000 Gill was paid by the 2017 Murphy campaign, he was also a recipient of NJEA’s largesse:

Entity funded by NJEACompensationPurpose
Committee to Build the Economy$237,500Claimed as independent expenditure committee supporting Murphy 2021 campaign
New Direction NJ$180,000Claimed as advocate for policies that support economic opportunity for NJ’s middle class
Our New Jersey$133,000Claimed as independent expenditure committee supporting Murphy 2021 campaign
$550,500

This half a million dollars is part of the $22 million Murphy took from the teachers of NJ to promote himself instead of using his own wealth. Read NJEA Teachers’ Union Dues Benefit Murphy

As the son of a teacher, how does Gill support using teachers’ salaries to promote Phil Murphy when Murphy’s policies have created economic inequity, a massive housing crisis and the financial collapse of public school systems throughout the State.

Teacher salaries are funded by taxpayers, and teachers are our neighbors. How can anyone support a candidate who exploits their neighbors to enrich themself? Shouldn’t the teachers of New Jersey have a say in whether they use their paycheck to buy groceries or fund Phil Murphy and Brendan Gill’s self promotion campaigns. Read Teachers’ Lawsuit

Accountability and transparency protects democracy, mob politics creates chaos and inequity, which is exactly what we are experiencing in Montclair.
